Travel to Nyungwe forest national park
Drive to the Nyungwe forest national park famous for being the habitat for over 310 bird species, 75 mammal species including chimpanzees, blue monkeys, Mona monkeys, and the owl-faced monkeys.
Have lunch en-route in Butare so arrive at your hotel later in the day and have a local hot dinner before retiring to your room or enjoy the views from the restaurant.
Chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe forest
Wake up very early to start the tracking in trails of either the Cyamudongo or Uwinka sections of the forest. Combined, the total number of chimpanzees in both sections of the park forest is 80.
After the trekking, you can choose to relax in your hotel or choose another available activity recommended by an AA Safaris’ consultant during booking your tour.
Optional activity: Canopy walk
In the afternoon, you can take part in the Canopy walk which takes you on a 50-meter walk above the deep gorge. This is an activity not for those afraid of heights and fainthearted people. It will allow you to see animals and birds that live in the upper canopy of the forest like the blue monkeys.

In the afternoon, refresh yourself with a hike through the forest and small streams down to the waterfalls.
