Set off early in the morning on a drive to Fort Portal to reach Queen Elizabeth national park. Queen Elizabeth National Game Park is very scenic because it combines bushland, savannah plains, forests, wetlands with the Kazinga Channel flowing through the park that connects to Lake George and Lake Edward thus attracting wildlife and birds to it because of the huge waters it offers for survival. This park has one of the largest hippo concentration numbers in the world.
on day 3, Breakfast before daybreak will let you start the game drive early during the “golden hours” to enjoy watching the savannah land inhabitants rise like the elephants, buffaloes, warthogs, kobs, antelopes. Let us go for an afternoon boat ride when the sun is hot so that the Kazinga Channel turns into a drinking spot for many animals, especially crocodiles, hippos, buffalos that immerse themselves in the water to cool off. The animals might be unbothered by your boat so you can take photos of them up close.
You can opt for a hike in the valley of apes that is to say the Kyambura gorge which is a geological feature home to several primates like vervet monkeys, chimpanzees, baboons, red-tailed monkeys.
Your morning will be a journey for your taste buds as you have a bush breakfast then set off for Bwindi impenetrable national park. Go on a community visit when on the outskirts of the Bwindi forest and see the locals’ way of life, take part in arts and crafts, buy some, have lunch from there then head to your lodge for the evening.
for day 5, you will go gorilla trekking in Bwindi forest. Uganda has 50% of the world’s mountain gorilla population living in the Bwindi forest. Arise early(before 8:00 A.M) so that you can have a morning meal before the AA Safaris tour guide drives you to the park headquarters where you will be briefed on the trekking experience; what to expect, Dos and Don’ts while in the midst of the mountain gorillas. A park guide will start you down well-maintained paths into the Bwindi forest to track one of the 13 mountain gorilla families. When the family to track is sighted, you will be guided to a distance of 6 meters from where you will sit in silence and observe the gorillas go about their day. Watch them feed, hunt insects, tree bark and fruits, play, climb trees, groom one another. Remember not to mimic the sounds they will make, no flash photography, no feeding the gorillas. Lunch will be readily packed for the day. Stay hydrated through the day because of the long walk and energy you will need to move through the thick bushes.
Today you set off in the morning to the Uganda- Rwanda border so make sure all your travel documents are in order. Enjoy the captivating scenery of the mountainous landscape of this part of Rwanda as you drive to Volcanoes National Park to your lodge for the evening. This park is home to mountain gorillas, golden monkeys, spotted hyena, bushbuck, and black-fronted duiker.
Rise early for the drive to the park headquarters for a briefing then with your park ranger, head down the trails of the rainforest till you find the gorilla family you will be tracking for the day. Sit in silence and enjoy the forest with the gorillas as they go about their daily routine in their natural habitat.
If this tour is during the 1st September annually, you can attend the gorilla baby naming ceremony.
Have a hot meal then be driven to Kigali city. If you have time before your flight, you can embark on a city tour to see the Genocide memorial center, shop in the boutiques but this will be out of your pocket.
If you want to be dropped at Kigali International Airport or spend an extra night in a Kigali hotel, inform your AA Safaris consultant during booking.
AA Safaris has designed 8 days for you that combines enjoying nature’s beauty on land and water. Travel to Queen Elizabeth National Park for a game drive and a boat cruise on Kazinga Channel to view wild game like hippos, elephants, buffalos then head on to Bwindi impenetrable park to track the mountain gorillas and unwind at the end of the day.
