On Day 2A, embark on a drive to the “Mto wa Mbu” village for a cultural tour that explores the local farming community. You will visit farms, schools, churches, and markets and interact with the 18,000 residents of this area, who come from 120 different tribes. Witness the skilled Makonde carpenters as they craft intricate wooden household items, masks, and figurines. Take the opportunity to visit local markets and put your bargaining skills to use when buying produce, meats, and spices from the vendors’ stalls. Lake Manyara National Park, though one of the smallest in Tanzania, is home to the only evergreen forest in the country, which is home to baboons and a variety of water birds such as flamingos and pelicans. Additionally, it is a popular spot for migratory birds, such as the grey-headed kingfisher, and is known for its tree-climbing lions. Note: Tours departing between June and October will visit Tarangire National Park.
Begin your morning with a game drive in Tarangire National Park, which is renowned for its large herds of elephants that congregate at the Tarangire River to drink. For bird enthusiasts, this park offers a wealth of opportunities with over 500 bird species to observe. Additionally, Tarangire is the only place in Tanzania where you can spot the gerenuk and oryx, and it boasts one of the largest wildlife populations in the country outside of the Serengeti.
Take a visit to the Serengeti National Park, a tour highlight known for its vast wild game population and pristine ecosystem. The park is divided into three sections: the North (Lobo area), South (Seronera Valley), and West corridor. The North area is particularly notable for the great wildebeest migration, one of the most awe-inspiring natural events in the world. After your visit, return to your hotel for the evening.
Spend a full day exploring the Serengeti with close-up encounters during the game drives in the wild. To make the most of this experience, set off early in the morning when most predators are active and hunting. Visit the Seronera Valley, known for its lions and mongooses. A pre-packed picnic lunch will be provided during the day.
Optional Activity: Hot Air Balloon Safari Take a Hot Air Balloon Safari to float over the stunning scenery of the Serengeti from a bird’s-eye view. This activity is best done early in the morning while it is still dark to see nocturnal animals heading to water shores to drink. Enjoy a bush breakfast with champagne in the middle of the park. This optional activity costs US$500 per person.
On Day 5, begin your morning with a game drive as you leave the Serengeti National Park and head towards the Ngorongoro Crater for an afternoon game drive. The crater is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including cheetahs, jackals, Thompson’s gazelles, flamingos, and the Big 5: lions, elephants, buffaloes, rhinos, and leopards. Birders will also have a great time with over 400 bird species to spot during the drive.
On Day 6, depending on your scheduled departure time, you may have the option to participate in an additional activity to end your safari.
Optional Activity: Ngorongoro Highland Walks Take a guided walk in the Ngorongoro highlands with an armed ranger and explore this scenic area that combines culture and wildlife. See volcanoes, forests, and craters all in one place, and encounter the Masai people who inhabit the area’s highlands.
