Golden monkey tracking is carried out in Volcanoes National park and its starts early in the morning by 7:00am just like gorilla trekking. These are rare species and are listed as endangered and they are only two troops of these habituated golden monkeys that are available for visiting by the tourists in the park, these also total to 80 individuals.
These golden monkeys also live in the bamboo vegetation towards the base of the volcanoes and the habituation has helped them to overcome their initial shyness to accept their daily visit by the researchers as well as the tourists. This has increased on the golden monkey tracking safaris to Rwanda hence raising high revenues.
Tracking the golden monkeys and gorillas is a similar experience, this is because both only 8 people are allowed to visit a specific group of either the golden monkeys or the mountain gorillas. Both of them, the tourists are allowed to spend only one hour as you watch them play, feed and jump from tree to tree.
These endangered species are very active creatures, and they jump from tree to tree which is really interesting and a little difficult to photograph. The golden monkey trek is worth going for within volcanoes National park and it turns out to be a rare and delightful experience. There are also many other type of monkeys found in Rwandan national parks, these include; the silver monkeys, mona monkeys, vervet monkey, colobus monkeys and many more. Chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe national park is also part of the trekking activities with in the park.
