Itinerary

Day 1- Welcome to Rwanda

A representative from AA Safaris will give you a warm welcome at Kigali International airport and drive you to your hotel for you to rest. If interested, you can visit the local markets especially the crafts market to buy carvings, musical instruments, fabrics, sculptures and leather items at your cost.

Days 2&3: Transfer to Lake Mutanda (Uganda), Gorilla trekking

Drive to the north of Kisoro in Uganda where the scenic lake Mutanda is located with a great view of the Virunga mountains. Relax at the lake as you engage in lake activities like dugout canoeing across the lake then hike or take a bike ride to your lodge.you can relax at the lake shores with a swim or order a tilapia meal.

Activities done here will be at your cost.

For this tour, AA Safaris advises you to get an East African single tourist visa at USD 100 for you to travel through Uganda, Kenya, and Rwanda.

Drive to Bwindi national park headquarters for a briefing before tracking the mountain gorillas starts. Uganda has 50% of the world’s mountain gorilla population living in the Bwindi forest. A park guide will start you down well-maintained paths into the Bwindi forest to track one of the 13 mountain gorilla families. When the family to track is sighted, you will be guided to a distance of 6 meters from where you will sit in silence and observe the gorillas go about their day. Watch them feed, hunt insects, tree bark and fruits, play, climb trees, groom one another. Remember not to mimic the sounds they will make, no flash photography, no feeding the gorillas. Lunch will be readily packed for the day. Stay hydrated through the day because of the long walk and energy you will need to move through the thick bushes.

 Day 4: Fly to Nairobi

Be driven to Kigali International airport for an evening flight to Nairobi. When you arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, an AA Safaris guide will drive you to a hotel to spend the evening.

Day 5,6&7: Domestic flight to Masai Mara Game reserve, Whole day Game drives in the Game drive

Your guide from AA Safaris will drive you to Wilson airport for your 45minutes to an hour flight to Masai Mara game reserve. A representative from the lodge you will be staying at will be at the airstrip to pick you up and drive you to the lodge for you to check-in. Start on a long game drive in search of the Big 5 of the wild (Rhinos, elephants, lions, leopards, buffaloes) in this game reserve. When you drive along Mara river, you will spot antelopes, crocodiles, lions, buffaloes, and hippos. In July-October annually, 2 million wildebeests alongside predators like lions, leopards, hyenas, cheetahs migrate from The Masai Mara game reserve to The Serengeti in Tanzania and return. 

 

Start early on both days for a drive in the game reserve. You might be lucky to see a predator like a lion or a cheetah resting after a night hunt. Stop to see antelopes, lions, cheetahs, wildebeests, zebras, impalas, duikers, elephants . as you drive, your guide will take you down different trails so that you see different animals and he will explain how they thrive in their habitats and survive in their territories. Don’t forget to carry cameras for photos.

Day 8: Departure

Go on a morning game drive to see how predators like cheetahs, leopards relax after a night of hunting. See the rest of the wild wake up before your eyes especially as animals leave their night resting places for the Mara river for a drink after a night’s rest.

The driver of the lodge will drive you to the airstrip for your flight to Nairobi, Wilson Airport.
