Trip Overview

Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to accommodation from Kigali International Airport

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, complete the routine clearance process and meet your friendly tour driver-guide. Begin your journey to Volcanoes National Park, located in northwestern Rwanda and bordering Virunga National Park in the DRC and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Uganda. Check into your booked accommodation, relax, and prepare for the next day’s gorilla trekking and wildlife adventures. Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge

Optional (extra cost): If time permits, enjoy a brief Kigali city tour before transferring to Volcanoes National Park.

Day 2: Hiking at Mount Bisoke to the summit

If you love hiking and breathtaking landscapes, Mount Bisoke is perfect for you. After breakfast, collect your packed lunch and head to the starting point at Kinigi. Receive a briefing and set off with your ranger guide to hike Mount Bisoke (3,711 meters above sea level). The ascent takes 4–5 hours, with a 3-hour descent. At the summit, enjoy stunning views of the crater lake before returning to your accommodation to rest.

Optional (extra cost): If you have energy and interest, you can visit the local community for a cultural encounter later in the day.

Day 3: Golden Monkey Trekking in Volcanoes National Park and Transfer to Bwindi, Uganda

Golden Monkey Trekking in Volcanoes National Park and Transfer to Bwindi, Uganda

Begin your day at 07:00 with golden monkey trekking in Volcanoes National Park. These rare and endangered monkeys live in habituated groups that visitors can track. The experience starts with a short briefing from the park ranger at the RDB office, followed by a guided trek through the lush rainforest in search of these fascinating primates.

After the trek, return to your accommodation for rest and lunch. In the afternoon, drive to the Cyanika border post, where you will meet your Uganda-based professional tour driver-guide. Cross into Uganda and continue to your lodge near Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, preparing for an unforgettable gorilla trekking adventure the following day.

Day 4: Gorilla trekking at Bwindi Forest

After breakfast, head to the rangers’ post for a briefing on the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking. Then, enter the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest for your unforgettable gorilla encounter. The rainforest is breathtaking, with dense, steep terrain crisscrossed by animal trails that allow access to trekkers. Trekking time varies depending on the movements of the gorilla groups. Once you locate a group, spend one hour observing these gentle, endangered giants in their natural habitat. After this extraordinary experience, return to your accommodation to rest and relax.

Day 5: Ishasha Game Drive for Tree-Climbing Lions and Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

After an early breakfast, transfer to the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park, renowned for its tree-climbing lions. Embark on a game drive in search of this rare and iconic wildlife. Spotting lions perched in the trees is a truly unforgettable and picturesque experience. After your Ishasha adventure, continue to your lodge in the northern sector of the park, check in, and relax.

Optional: For wildlife enthusiasts, enjoy a late afternoon-to-evening game drive on the Kasenyi Plains.

Day 6: Game Drive Safari and Afternoon Boat Cruise on Kazinga Channel

After an early morning breakfast, you will proceed for a morning game drive on the Kasenyi plains and be on the lookout for Cape buffalos, herds of elephants, as well as lions and leopards (though hard to spot), among others. Return to the accommodation for some rest and lunch. After lunch, you will go for a 2-hour boat trip on the Kazinga Channel that connects Lakes George and Edward. During the trip, the sight of wildlife, including giant hippos, elephants and crocodiles among others, will fascinate you. You will also see many varieties of birds on the water shores.

Optional (no cost): If interested, you may go for a brief late afternoon-to-evening game viewing and then return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Chimp tracking at Kalinzu and transfer to Lake Mburo NP

After an early breakfast, drive to Kalinzu Forest Reserve for an exciting chimpanzee tracking adventure. The forest is home to habituated chimpanzees, as well as baboons, monkeys, and a variety of bird species, making it a prime destination for wildlife enthusiasts. After your trek, transfer to Lake Mburo National Park via Mbarara city. Upon arrival, you can check in and relax or embark on an afternoon game drive safari to explore the park’s diverse wildlife.

Optional (extra cost): Experience a night game drive to spot nocturnal animals in their natural habitat.

Day 8 Walking safari and travel to Entebbe for flight

Enjoy an early breakfast and proceed for the Mburo Park bushwalk in the presence of an armed Uganda Wildlife Authority ranger guide. On this early morning walk, you will have the opportunity to encounter, at close range, zebra, giraffe, eland, topi, other antelope, and Cape buffalo, among others. Take the trail to the top of the hills to see Lake Mburo and beyond.

Return to the accommodation for checkout and then drive (approx. 4 hours) to Entebbe Airport. (17h00 or later).
