On the third day of your safari, you will embark on a journey to Kitgum town, making stops along the way in Luwero for fruit and Gulu for lunch. As you drive, you will have the opportunity to admire the evergreen Savannah grassland of Nakasongola district, with its unique geological features. Upon arriving in Kitgum, you will check into your accommodation and visit the Apoka Tourism Center, the park’s tourism hub, where you can browse for souvenirs and books in the on-site crafts shop.
The following day, you will start your morning with a game drive in the park, where you will have the chance to see the Big 5 (lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes, and giraffes) and other animals such as antelopes and a variety of bird species. After lunch at the Apoka Tourism Center, you will have some time to relax before going on an evening game drive to see the wildlife preparing for the night.
On the fourth day, you will go on a 25 km nature walk through the extensive shrubland that makes up part of the park. The Lonyiri nature walk is designed to capture the imagination and creativity of tourists by providing a unique opportunity to explore the wilderness and see some of the park’s 470 bird species, including the silver bird, Yellow-billed Shrike, Hoopoe, Mosque Swallow, Nubian woodpecker, and little Weaver. In the afternoon, you will take a community walk to see the Karamojong people in their way of life. You will visit their manyatta homesteads, see their bright and colorful clothing and adornments, and have the chance to purchase traditional items like the shuka (a traditional cloth) and crafts like the sitting stool, which is used by men only. You will also have the opportunity to listen to their cultural songs and watch them dance with sticks.
