Go on an afternoon game drive by the Momella lakes which between May and October it looks pink because of the thousands of flamingos and other water birds on the water.

Located in the Northeast at the lowest point of the rift valley at the base of Tanzania’s only active volcano, Oldonyo L’Engai is this 58 meters long but 50cm deep lake. From June to November, about 3 million flamingos gather at the lake as this lake has alkaline which deters predators so it makes for a breeding ground for birds safe to courtship. You can walk along the lake shores to see the flamingos up-close. South of the lake you will view Ol Doinyo Lengai volcano, unique because it is the only one in the earth to spew black lava.
Return for a walk around the lake Natron but through Ngare Sero village to see how the Masai community lives; how they live and herd cattle in this barren landscape. Expect to see wildlife like lesser kudu, oryx, and flamingos since lake Natron is the breeding ground of flamingos then return to camp for lunch. In the afternoon, go on a guided hike to Ngaro Sero waterfalls through a gorge and you will cross the river several times to reach the first falls. Continue 20 minutes to reach the 2nd waterfalls where you can swim in the chilly water.
Start your morning with a game drive in this park. It is well known for its large herds of elephants which gather at the Tarangire River to drink. For birders, there are about more than 500 bird species to watch. This park is the only place in Tanzania where you can spot gerenuk and oryx, outside the Serengeti it has the largest wildlife population. Spot animals like lions, buffalos, leopards, impalas, warthog, eland, and waterbuck.
Go out of the park on a drive to “Mto wa Mbu” village for a cultural tour that involves moving around this farming community as you tour through farms, schools, churches, markets and with 18,000 locals who have diverse cultures from 120 tribes. Visit the wood workshops where the Skilled Makonde carpenters carve wooden intricate household items, masks, and figurines. Enter the local markets and put your haggling skills to use especially when buying vegetables, fruits, meat and spices in their stalls. Lake Manyara national park is one of the smallest parks in Tanzania but it has the only evergreen forest in the country whose inhabitants include baboons and by the lake here are water birds like flamingos and pelicans. Migratory birds can be viewed here like the grey-headed kingfisher. It is home to tree-climbing lions.
