Your guide/driver will meet you at Kilimanjaro International Airport and take you to your lodge.
Note: Tours departing between January-May or November-December will include a visit to Lake Manyara National Park on Day 2.
Explore the “Mto wa Mbu” village on a cultural tour that takes you through the farming community. Visit local farms, schools, churches, and markets, and interact with the 18,000 inhabitants of diverse cultures from 120 tribes. Observe the skilled Makonde carpenters as they craft intricate wooden household items, masks, and figurines. Take a stroll through the local markets, where you can put your bargaining skills to the test while purchasing vegetables, fruits, meat, and spices.
Please note that between June and October, AA Safaris suggests visiting Tarangire National Park on Day 2 instead.
Begin your day with an early morning game drive in Tarangire National Park, where large herds of elephants congregate at the Tarangire River to drink. The park offers ample opportunities for bird watching, with over 500 bird species, and it’s the only location in Tanzania where you can spot gerenuk and oryx. The park also boasts the largest wildlife population outside of the Serengeti.
Experience the Serengeti National Park, one of the tour’s main highlights, known for its vast wild game population and unspoiled ecosystem. The park is divided into three sections: the North (Lobo area), South (Seronera Valley), and West Corridor. The Great Wildebeest Migration can be observed in the North area, considered one of the most captivating natural events in the world. After enjoying the day in the park, you will return to your hotel for the evening.
Spend the day on a full-day safari, where your guide will take you close to the animals for photo opportunities. Start the day early with a morning drive, when most predators are active and hunting. Venture deeper into the Serengeti in search of the wildebeest migration, considered one of the “7 wonders of the world.” The wildebeest, zebras, elands, and Thompson’s gazelles, make this 800 km journey every year, based mainly on the year’s rain pattern, though it’s currently affected by global climate change. The migration attracts predators such as lions, hyenas, cheetahs, and leopards, who anticipate this annual event as it provides them with a plenty of prey options.
*Please note that in December and the start of January it can be difficult to predict the migration location, whether it’s on the Serengeti or Ngorongoro side of the park, which may affect your accommodation options.
Today is all about the migration adventure. Observe the predators, such as lions, cheetahs, and leopards, as they follow the migratory animals in search of their next meal.
Begin the day with a morning game drive as you depart from the park and head towards the Ngorongoro crater for an afternoon game drive. Inside the crater, you’ll have the chance to see cheetahs, jackals, Thompson’s gazelles, flamingos and the Big 5, which includes lions, elephants, buffalos, rhinos, and leopards. Birders will also have the opportunity to spot around 400 bird species during the drive.
Dive into the crater by descending through the highland forest, and when you reach the crater floor, you’ll have the opportunity to view a population of 30,000 animals grazing and hunting. Depending on the time of year, you may also be able to spot flamingos around the shores of Lake Magadi and hippos in the nearby swamp.
Explore the city with a tour.
As an optional activity, take a guided hike through the scenic Ngorongoro highlands with an armed ranger. Discover the unique combination of culture and wildlife in this picturesque landscape, including volcanoes, forests, and craters. Meet the Masai people who inhabit the area’s highlands.
Depending on the schedule of your departing flight, you may have the opportunity to participate in an additional activity to conclude your safari.
This tour focuses on following the annual migration of 2 million ungulates and a population of predators through the Serengeti. Experience the beauty of nature and a diverse array of wildlife while staying in the region’s top mid-range and semi-luxury accommodations.
