Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be greeted and taken to your lodge for the evening.
On Day 2A, embark on a drive to the “Mto wa Mbu” village for an immersive cultural tour of the local farming community. You will visit farms, schools, churches, and markets and interact with the 18,000 residents of this area, who come from 120 different tribes. Witness the skilled Makonde carpenters as they craft intricate wooden household items, masks, and figurines. Take the opportunity to visit local markets and put your bargaining skills to use when buying produce, meats, and spices from the vendors’ stalls. Please note that between June and October, AA Safaris recommends visiting Tarangire National Park instead on Day 2.
Begin your morning with a game drive in Tarangire National Park, known for its large herds of elephants that congregate at the Tarangire River for water. The park also offers an abundance of bird-watching opportunities, with over 500 bird species. It is the only location in Tanzania where you can spot gerenuk and oryx, and it boasts the largest wildlife population outside of the Serengeti.
Experience the Serengeti National Park, one of the tour’s highlights, known for its vast wild game population and unspoiled ecosystem. The park has three sections: the North (Lobo area), South (Seronera Valley), and West Corridor. The Great Wildebeest Migration can be observed in the North area, considered one of the most captivating natural events in the world. Afterwards, return to your hotel for the evening.
Embark on a full-day excursion in the Serengeti, with the opportunity for close-up encounters during the game drives. To maximize the chances of seeing predators, we will set off early in the morning when they have just woken up and are hunting. Visit the Seronera Valley, known for its lion and mongoose populations. A pre-packed picnic lunch will be provided.
Optional activity: Hot Air Balloon Safari
Soar above the picturesque landscapes of the Serengeti with a bird’s-eye view. This safari activity takes place early in the morning while it’s still dark, allowing you to witness nocturnal animals heading to the water’s edge to drink. Enjoy a bush breakfast with champagne in the middle of the park.
Today’s itinerary includes a morning game drive in the Serengeti National Park, followed by a drive to Ngorongoro Crater for an afternoon game drive. Inside the crater, you will have the chance to see cheetahs, jackals, Thompson’s gazelle, flamingos, and the Big 5 (lions, elephants, buffalos, rhinos, and leopards). Additionally, birders will have the opportunity to spot around 400 bird species during the drive.
Depending on the departure time of your international flight, you may have the opportunity to participate in an optional activity to conclude the safari.
Optional activity: Ngorongoro Highland Walks
Explore the scenic area that combines culture and wildlife with a guided walk led by an armed ranger. Discover volcanoes, forests, and craters all in one place and encounter the Masai people who inhabit the area’s highlands.
